CC NEXT (Child Care NEXT)

Mission

The New Mexico CC NEXT coalition consists of X key partners and is a part of the national Child Care NEXT initiative, aimed at supporting states ready to launch long-term campaigns for transformative change in childcare policies and funding. The coalition focuses on stabilizing the early childhood education (ECE) workforce in New Mexico by advocating for an equitable wage and career ladder and ensuring sustainable, rewarding career pathways for educators.

Key Initiatives

Advocate for policy reforms that create a comprehensive salary structure based on experience, education, and qualifications, ensuring wage parity across public and private ECE settings.
Collaborate with the national Child Care NEXT initiative to develop state-level strategies for achieving transformative improvements in childcare policies and funding.
Implement a professional development system that aligns with credit-bearing programs, improving accessibility to career advancement opportunities.
Support higher wages tied to education and experience, with a focus on culturally responsive and trauma-informed care.

Outcomes

Enhanced Child Development: High-quality programs and better retention of educators will improve early learning outcomes.
Economic Equity: Increased wages and career opportunities will lift educators, predominantly women of color, out of poverty and boost the local economy.
Childcare Accessibility: Stabilizing the workforce will reduce waitlists, expanding equitable access to high-quality childcare.
Policy Transformation: Through partnership with Child Care NEXT, the coalition will drive significant changes in state policies and funding to support long-term improvements in early childhood education.

NM BIPOC Community Voice Coalition (Black, Indigenous, People of Color / African, Latinx, Asian, Arab, and Native American)

Mission

The NM BIPOC Community Voice Coalition brings together diverse organizations to build a multi-racial leadership table focused on prenatal-to-age-3 (PN-3) policy in New Mexico. This coalition works to ensure that families from historically under-invested communities receive culturally respectful, comprehensive perinatal care, and that they have access to high-quality, anti-racist, and free early care and education.

Key Initiatives

Convene a statewide, multi-racial leadership team to prioritize PN-3 policy issues through collaboration with key partners.
Advocate for policies that promote culturally congruent perinatal and early childhood care.
Build capacity within community organizations to ensure the coalition's success in advancing PN-3 priorities.

Outcomes

Equitable Care: Ensure pregnant people in New Mexico’s BIPOC and marginalized communities have access to safe, respectful, and culturally appropriate perinatal care.
Systemic Change: Advocate for accessible, high-quality early care and education for all children, particularly those from historically underinvested families, to create a more equitable future.

Kids First (Early Childhood Education Budget Coalition)

Mission

The Kids First Coalition is a collective of 15 organizations using grassroots strategies to continue the work started with the passage of Constitutional Amendment #1, which ensures access to Early Childhood funds. The coalition is committed to securing dignified wages and benefits for early childhood educators in New Mexico, particularly those from BIPOC and immigrant communities. Through comprehensive policy advocacy, the coalition aims to uplift the workforce and improve access to affordable, high-quality childcare.

Key Initiatives

Advocate for state-funded wage and career ladders that prioritize educational attainment and experience.
Address systemic barriers faced by BIPOC and immigrant early educators, including language access, immigration status, and economic inequities.
Promote policies that create equitable pathways for professional development and sustainable careers in early childhood education.

Outcomes

Professional Compensation: Ensure robust, recurring funding, for a wage and career ladder for early educators and pass legislation detailing the structure and goals of the wage and career ladder.
Systemic Change: Support policies that improve educator retention and recruitment, building a more stable, high-quality early childhood education system.
