The South Valley Social Enterprise Center is a public-private partnership that will bring hundreds of construction jobs and more than 60 permanent, living wage jobs to the heart of Albuquerque’s South Valley. Built in a designated Opportunity Zone, the $4.5 million project will house textile/manufacturing, office space, and a community engagement hub.
When completed the alternative economic development model will include a textile manufacturing social enterprise, an early learning center, and 2-Generation place-based and national non-profits. This investment will allow the revitalization of a major property on Isleta Boulevard bringing much needed business development and family-centered programs to the South Valley.
With the help of CHI St. Joseph’s Children and ACCION NM, PCA renovated an existing structure at 722 Isleta Blvd. SW to create an Entrepreneurial Storefront Space. Upon completion of the South Valley Social EnterpriseCenter, this space will be used to support entrepreneurs that align with PCA’s community based participatory research.

Colibrí Children’s Play Garden offers a place where children and families can explore early literacy, math, science, music and art through dynamic processes of engaged learning and interactive play structures. Colibrí is the result of collaboration between UNM Architecture and Planning students, the Partnership for Community Action and Working Classroom. The interactive open space was built over the course of the weekend by community volunteers on .25 acres at our Community Action Campus at 722 Isleta Blvd SW. The design for Colibrí was developed by students in UNM’s BA in Environmental Planning and Design
Built with the help of a PNM Power Up Grant, UNM School of Architecture and Planning 2015 CRP Studio Capstone class, and many generous volunteers!
